so I decided to get a new primary care physician. She was a piece of work. I originally went in because my therapist recommended that it may help me to have a fast acting medication to help me through a situation that is really high in stress and I can’t calm myself down. So I went in for that and a physical.
I explained to her my issues with my anxiety and offered her my therapist’s business card if she had any questions. She completely ignored what I said and tried to put me on Celexa. Which I understand helps elevate mood and anxiety, but I don’t need that. In order for it to be effective, you have to take it everyday and I don’t need medicine everyday. I am not anxious everyday. So I explained to her that this probably wasn’t the best route for those specific reasons. She looked at me and then to her and computer. As she I typing, she speaks her words: patient refuses medication.

So at this point I just knew I had a crazy. She stated that there were supplements I could try to help with my anxiety and she would send me the site where I could buy them from. She then tried to take me off my GERD medicine and offer me another supplement.
Ohhhhh…. I was also offered a supplement for my scleroderma ๐.
You get a supplement, you get a supplement too ๐
Scleroderma is a complex thing ย although my symptoms are mild, I still don’t make impulse decisions. My doctors work together as a team and collaborate with each other. They don’t just make decisions and run with it.
She ran bloodwork and everything came back fine except my vitamin D which is low. She also informed me that there was a supplement I could take that was found on the website she sent me
I informed my rheumatologist of my encounter with this wonderful Doctor and he was annoyed lol. He called me in a Vitamin D prescription (which was free btw), told me to stay on my GERD medicine if it is helping and when I came in, he’d give me a script for my anxiety.
Safe to say, I will not be going back to her. I applaud her for giving me a laugh.
Good grief. What a horrible doctor!! Supplements?! You should have asked to see her medical license!
I have started to meet with my primary (who I do like) every 2-3 months so she can review all my tests and notes from the specialists and keep up to date on my symptoms. I really need her to be able to coordinate my overall care, and this seems to be working. I’m taking vitamin D and I think it is helping with anxiety.
Hugs!

I should have. I thought it was a joke lol. I seriously could not believer what she was saying to me! And How much vitamin D do you take. My rheumatologist gave me 50000 ius a week and it seems a little excessive.
Also, do you have pulmonary hypertension at all??

I’ve been told that I have early pulmonary hypertension, but they aren’t offering to do a cath to check the pressure yet as its only 33 on echo. I also have mild ILD and have developed asthma like symptoms.
I go crazy over the misinformation and pseudoscience out there. I’m shocked that this person referred you to a site that sells them. It’s bad enough to be dealing with this disease without being victimized by people marketing ideas and supplements with no proven benefit.

Forgot about vitamin D. I’m taking 2000 units a day, which my doc said was ok. She measured my blood levels and I’m kind of low normal even with taking that much.

I think my RVSP was 39 and they still did my cath anyway. I’m borderline with an mPAP at 25. They haven’t started me on anything which I was at first happy about but now I’m wondering if I should be proactive with this. And my vitamin d was very low. I think normal is 30-60 and I was at a 13. I guess I should take this huge pill then ๐
Yes I cannot stand it! The whole visit pretty much just angered me. I have never come across someone, let alone a doctor, who pushed “supplements” to help with this disease. Its heartbreaking when people do believe it and spend their money on garbage and false hope.
